Definition
It is an acute veneral disease caused by a gonococci microorganism called Neisseria Gonorrhoeae.
Occurrence/Incidence:- It can affect both sexes but more severe in males than in females. New born
babies are not exempted.
Incubation Period:- Usually between 2 and 5 days but may be as long as 10-14 day
Mode of spread
⦁ Coitus
⦁ Child birth/Parturition causing opthalmia neonatorum
⦁ Rarely through formities
There are two types of gonorrhoea
⦁ Acute gonococci Infection
⦁ Chronic gonorrhoea
Acute infections- clinical manifestation
In men
⦁ Painful micturition
⦁ Urethral pain
⦁ Purulent discharge
In women
⦁ Urethra and Cervix become infected first
⦁ Produced purulent vagina discharge
⦁ Bartholiritis
⦁ Some women show no sign of infection
⦁ Pelvic pain
Clinical Features
⦁ Acute arteritis referred to as gonococci rheumatism
⦁ Iritis and Conjunctivitis
